Diet and behaviour


Star fish are actually called sea stars. Their are 2000 species of sea star. The scientific name is Asterroidea.

They aren't social but they stay in groups for food. They slowly creep along the ocean floor.



They are carnivores. They

eat snails,clams and

oysters. They are all called

mollusks.

The biggest a sea star can be 24cm and it's weight is 5kg. Most of them have spiny skin and five arms but they can grow 50 arms. They have suckers on their arms.

They live in tidal pools,

rocky shores ,kelp

beds and coral reefs.

Sometimes they can live in sands as deep

as 9000 meters.
