Lions live in prides. There can be from from 3 to 30 lions in one pride. A pride contains lots of females and their children, and a couple of males. The females lead the pride, working together to hunt for food and raise the cubs. But the adult males play a good part as well. They guard the pride and protect it from rivals.Lions have some things in common with your cat. They are great climbers and are often seen up in trees checking the area for prey. Lions sleep up to 21 hours per day, and some people have seen them sleeping in some uncomfortable ways—including on their backs with their paws in the air!Lions need big prides to hunt well, and home loss is a problem facing lion populations. Lions are also seen as a threat to livestock by farmers. Farmers may shoot lions or poison them to keep them away from their livestock (lions will scavenge for food, making them simple targets for the poisoning method).
