Day One!!
Good morning 4B!
Hello to all the children who are coming back to our new online classroom!
I hope you had a great Mothers Day and a restful weekend! Today is our first day of home learning! I'm very excited to see all the amazing work that you do at home (both school work and extra activites!)
So what are we doing in school today? Well, as our Welcome Guide explains, it is up to your family to decide how much work you can do at home, and at what speed, but I hope that you will find lots of tasks here to keep you active, entertained and learning.
Here is a suggested timetable that you can follow today if you wish!
9:00 PE Warm up with Joe Wicks
Ms Harris wishes that as many of us as possible start our day with Joe Wicks' new series of PE warm ups at 9am every morning. You should be able to find him on YouTube using this link. I've heard Mr Cleary is busy recording his own workout videos for you lucky children in Malorees!
9.30 Destination Reader
Some children brought home copies of the first chapter of Into the Jungle home last week. If you didn't, don't worry, it's saved here and on the Y4 menu, along with some questions. Catch up with any reading you missed, and then answer the questions on pages 7 and 8.
10:00 Break
Take an brain break and do some exercise!. It's important to take regular screen breaks!
10:15 Maths
Log in to mathletics.com using the login details you took home last week. There
is a guide to using Mathletics here. Then:
- Aim to finish all your overdue homework tasks – any tasks you didn’t manage last
- term have now been removed, so make sure that you are up to date. You will find a new fractions task for you this morning.
- Try one of the other Mathletics activities – choose one you haven’t used before.
- There are games like Multiverse or Rainforest Maths, or Live Mathletics. There are other resources too – see if you can find the Nine Times Table song?
Write about your investigation of Mathletics in your new Learning Diary. Have you found anything that might help you with our Fractions topic?
11:00 Break
Take an brain break and do some art (I'll put up some ideas soon!). It's important to take regular screen breaks!
11:15 Literacy - Persuasive Writing
Find the English Week 1 pack from the Year 4 Week 1 menu. Your first lesson is to look at some texts, and make a list of persuasive writing features. Publish your list to the class blog using j2e5.
12:00 Lunch
Remember to wash those hands!
1.00 Diary and Timetable
It's time to get your Home Learning Diary started; whether that's online using j2e5 or in a favourite notebook. I want you to take time every day to note down what you've done, and how you think it went. Try to answer these questions in your diary today:
- Do you think that you've learned anything today?
- How will learning at home be different to learning in school?
- What will be better, and what will be worse?
- Have you discussed your weekly timetable with your family yet? If so, can you tell me about it?
- Have you talked about a new skill that you'd like to learn over the next few weeks, with your adults?
Even if you choose to keep your diary in a real book, I'd like you to tell me about it today on j2e5, so that I know what your plans are.
1.45 Break
Let's take a brain break and do some warm ups to get our bodies working!
20x Jumping Jacks/Star Jumps
20x High Knees
20x Kick Backs
20x Frog Jumps
2.00 Independent reading for pleasure
Use your Reading Journal or Learning Diary to record all your reading
3.00 Hometime :D
The tasks are all to be completed to the best of your ability, but I also want to see your creative side, so feel free to send me exciting ways you have met each objective. I look forward to seeing your learning in action! Don't forget about your learning diaries that you write to tell me about things you are learning and doing at home! :).
*Remember to put your REAL first name (not surname for data protection) on everything that you post so I can see who I am writing back to!
