The African Elephant

Today I'm going to tell you about the African elephant. This elephant has two long tusks and a long trunk that could reach to the ceiling.

The African elephant has grey skin and a huge body. It has large ears and small eyes. It also has a short, thin tail. Elephants live in a group that is called a herd. They can live up to 60 - 70 years. They spend much of their day eating. The elephants eat a lot of grass and leaves. They drink a lot of water, too. They put it in their trunk and then spray it on their body to keep cool.

African elephants are in danger. They are killed for their ivory tusks, skin and for their meat. They take the ivory tusks to make ornaments and jewellery.
