Sun, Earth and Moon

The Earth

The Earth is where we live. It is the only planet with life on it. It is 70% water and it is the fifth largest planet in the Solar System. It is the third planet from the sun and the largest of the terrestrial planets. The Earth's layers are the crust, then the upper mantle, then the mantle, next the upper core and finally the core.

he sun

The sun is at the centre of the Solar System. All ten planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto (a dwarf-planet) and Sedna (a newly discovered planet) orbit this star. It is 6000 degrees celcius on the surface and 15 million degrees celcius in the core! Its layers are corona, photosphere, cromosphere, convective zone, radiative zone and core.

Moon

The moon is our only natural satellite and is full of craters. These were made by the Late Heavy Bombardment. it appears to change shape, but it is only reflecting the sun's light at different angles. There is always an eclipse when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth.
