On Tuesday 15th May, Year 5 went to the Ragged Victorian Museum and we learned about Victorian schools. First we saw what was in a kitchen and what was missing from our kitchen now at home. Secondly, we went into a Victorian classroom and we had to act like Victorian children and the teacher, called Miss Perkins, was very strict and she carried a cane everywhere.
We did not get punished but in the olden days they would get hit by the cane. Also if they weren't sitting up straight the teacher would get a wooden stick and put it between their arms and back. If they were fidgeting the teacher would have a wooden thing with four holes in it and then they tie a string to it and the other one and then you will have to sit there for as long as the teacher wants you to. When we were there the teacher chose six monitors and they would give out the slate chalk and ragged towel.
Finally, we had lunch and then it was time to go back on the coach but we had a great day and we all enjoyed it.
