Megalithic Temples
Hagar Qim was built between 3600 and 3200 BC. It is found 2km South West of Qrendi in Malta and stand on a hill over looking Filfla. Hagar Qim was a Temple that was used for ceremonies.
Stone and clay Statues were found there. There is also a small holes which the suns rays pass through during the summer solstice.
Hagar Qim is looked after by Heritage Malta and is now covered to protect it.
Mnajdra was built between 3150 and 2500 BC. It is found about 500m awat from Hagar Qim Temples near Qrendi in Malta. It is thought that Mnajdra was used to mark the Seasons Heritage Malta looks after Mnajdra and it has been covered to protect it.
The Hypogeum was used for the first time around 4000 BC. It is found in Paola in the South of Malta. It was used for burial site. Human remains remains were found there and also Red Ochre wall paintings were also found. The Hypogeum is not like the other temples as it is a cave. It is looked after by Heritage Malta.
It was built in around 3600 BC. It is found in Xaghra Gozo. Ggantija was a temple animal sacrifice may have happened and some ceremonies may have happened here.
Limestone Statues and clay figures and animal bones were found here. Heritage Malta looks after the temples.
Tarxien Temples
The Tarxien Temples were built between 3600 and 3200 BC and are found in Tarxien in the South of Malta. It was used for rituals. The 'Fat Lady' statue was found here. Reliefs (carved pictures) found on the stones including some of ships. Heritage Malta takes care of the site and it has been covered to protect it.
