Titanic Tragedy
Belfast Northern Ireland- One on the greatest tragedies struck on the 31th March 1912. The RMS Titanic, which was built by White Star Line, after five days at sea, tragically sunk by hitting an iceberg whilst sailing for the first time in the North Atlantic ocean.
The RMS Titanic was a humongous luxurious steam ship, which was 28 meters wide,53 metres tall and 269 meters long. There were about 2,200 people on board, 900 of which were crew members and 1300 were passengers of every age, who were travelling to America for different reasons. The ship had three classes; the first class which was most luxurious, the second class which was with less comfort and the third which was very economical with basic needs. The Titanic departed Southampton heading to the USA, caring 20 life boats and 600 tonnes of coal.
It was on the 15th of April 1912 at about 2:00am that the ship hit a floating iceberg and broke in two. Some of the people on board of the ship fell in the freezing cold Atlantic sea loosing their. Others, who managed to get on one of the life boats available on the Titanic, survived the bad experience. In this horrendous tragedy there were 705 survivors and 1,500 who lost their lives.
After many years resting at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, the Titanic was found by a deep sea diver named Dr Robert Ballard, whilst on a mission in the Argo. Interesting is the fact the eldest survivor named Millvina Dean who lived until 2009, aged 97, has told the story of what happened on the Titanic on that tragic day. Based on this true story, today we get various movies like Titanic which is a very famous film.
