Year 6 home learning 20/4/20
Hello Year 6,
I hope everyone is ok and safe at home. Hopefully everyone managed to enjoy the sunshine over the Easter Holidays. I am really missing teaching everyone at school, but I am enjoying hearing about what you've been up to and it's great to see the photos of your learning that you have emailed to me.
Every Monday, I will update the blog with suggested learning activities for you to complete for the week ahead. If the timetable you created for your home learning has been useful, please continue to follow this as I know that having some structure to your day can be really helpful :)
Maths
1) Please complete the arithmetic and reasoning paper I sent home if you haven't already.
2) Continue to complete 1 page each day in your CGP mental maths book. Remember there are the 'Time Yourself Tests' at the back of the book. Please can you comment below to let me know which exercise you are on in the book.
English - Reading
1) Please continue to read daily either with your own books or on www.getepic.com - ask your parents to email me if you would like access to GetEpic outside of school hours too.
2) It would also be great if you could complete the comprehension paper I sent home if you haven't already.
English - Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation
1) Please choose 2 pages to complete each day from your CGP grammar book.
2) Play the game called sentences on https://www.topmarks.co.uk/english-games/7-11-years/punctuation
English - Creative Writing
Please continue to look at https://www.pobble365.com/ each day. There is a new picture uploaded daily and we would like you to select one of the learning activities to complete e.g. writing a story starter, answer the comprehension questions or complete the sentence challenges. Please either publish your Pobble work onto the Year 6 Pupil Blog or ask your parents to email me a copy of what you have completed :)
PSHE
Having a positive self-esteem is important (that means thinking nice things about yourself). TASK - draw and colour in a picture of yourself on paper or j2e5. Write words around the picture describing positive personal qualities e.g. great swimmer, amazing voice, kind, great friend etc. If you would like to share them, please send them to me or blog them.
Topic
1) Research Charles Darwin and create a timeline to illustrate Darwin's life up until his death on 19th April 1882. Both the Natural History Museum and the Royal Museums Greenwich websites have useful information about the life and times of Charles Darwin. These websites are also useful http://darwin-online.org.uk/timeline.html https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/charles-darwin-evolution-and-the-story-of-our-species/z7rvxyc
I know we looked at this in school, but I would like you to create a more detailed timeline with extra information :)
2) Create a model of HMS Beagle. This was the ship that Charles Darwin completed his voyage on. You can use materials of your choice e.g. recycled materials, lego etc. You can complete the whole ship or just one room in the ship. Think about why this ship was important and what it must have contained in order for Darwin to use it properly.
Science
Mrs Brown will be posting a Science blog each week suggesting some home learning ideas that you can complete. Keep a look out for it :)
Please continue to email me pictures of you completing your home learning and don't forget to add blog posts and comments regularly!
Stay safe,
Miss Miah :)
