DINOSAUR PLANET

Our new topic this half term in Year 1 is Dinosaur Planet.

HOME LEARNING - Summer 2- Week 1 w/b 1st June 2020

ENGLISH

Task 1 - Click on the book and listen to the story of 'Harry and the
Bucketful of Dinosaurs.' Talk about the story to your Mum or Dad.
Choose a dinosaur from the story, draw it and draw a large speech bubble 
bubble above it. In the speech bubble write some sentences that 
the dinosaur might say when he was found by Harry. Eg. I am so
pleased you found us in the attic. You have washed us.....

Task 2 - Watch the Dinosaurs powerpoint and learn the names of 
some dinosaurs. Label the worksheets with the correct names or
 choose 3 to draw using the powerpoint to help and label them
 carefully.

Task 3 - Play the Dinosaur Information Matching Game. Make it a pairs
game. Turn all the cards over so they are hidden and place into 2 sets - 
pictures and information. Choose one card from each and read the
information. Does it match the picture? If not turn them over and start
again until you find a pair.

Task 4 - Write the story of 'Harry and the Bucketful of 
Dinosaurs' in your own words. Remember to use a capital letter to
start your sentences and a full stop to finish. Re-read your work as you
progress to check it makes sense. You can use the book to help you spell the tricky words. Use the dinosaur lined paper if you are able.

Task 5 - Read the poem 'Roar.' What did you notice? Can
 you pick out the rhyming words. Answer the questions
 about the text.

MATHS

PLEASE TURN OVER

Task 1 - Set up a shop. Find some items and put prices on them. You can
 work with amounts up to 10p, 20p, 50p or £1.00 whatever level works for
 you. You will need an adult to help. Have a selection of coins in a purse
and go shopping. Pay the shopkeeper. Have a go at working out change.

Task 2 - ﻿If you had a £1.00 to spend on sweets and chocolates. What could
 you buy? You must not spend more than the amount. Tell me on the blog 
what you would choose.
Task 3 - Complete pages 26 -29 in your Rising Stars Workbook C solving
addition problems.
Task 4 - Watch the Alien themed Subtraction Powerpoint and
 complete the subtraction on a number line worksheets choosing
 numbers within 20 or 30. Complete page 30 in Rising Stars
Workbook C.
Task 5 -  Continue to play the Addition and Subtraction games on
BBC Bitesize Karate Cats Maths. 
Task 6 - Log on to J2e. Continue to use J2 Blast, select TTBlast
and practice your 2 times table.

PSHE - JIGSAW

This half term our theme is 
Changing Me

This week we are going to be thinking about life cycles of 
animals. 
Task - Watch the powerpoint about the life cycle of a
 frog. Complete the cut and stick activity worksheet to
 show the order of the frog's life cycle and explain 
﻿what happens.

HISTORY

Task - Watch and read the information on the 'What is a Dinosaur?'
powerpoint. Find the answer to this question: When did the 
dinosaurs live on Planet Earth? Write some interesting facts to
share with others who might not know. What does the word 'extinct'
mean?

GEOGRAPHY

Task -  Design a prehistoric setting for a small world dinosaur. Use
natural materials and make your landscape in a shoebox lid or similar.
Take a photo of your creation.

ART

Task 1 - Design a special container for Harry to keep his dinosaurs in.
Task 2 - Make a 3D dinosaur model using the template.
Task 3 - Click on the picture and follow the instructions to
 learn how to draw a T-Rex. 
Task 4 - Produce your own piece of Art work for Mrs
 Mackie's lockdown art display. Look for the Blog from 5th
 May for more details. Email your 'What has helped me

This half term we will continue with learning about Judaism.
Our key question: Are Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur important
to Jewish children?

Task - Have you ever needed to say sorry for something you did?
How did it feel to say sorry? Did the person forgive you? How did 
that feel? Watch the powerpoint and read the story. 
What does forgiveness mean?
Think about being kind to others. Write some daily
acts of kindness you could do. Use the ideas worksheet to help you.

SPELLINGS

This week I have attached a common exception words dinosaur. Ask an adult to test you on the words and read and colour the ones you get right.
Can you also write all the days of the week and learn the spellings of the words you are unsure of.

Continue to work on your spellings following the weekly programme using the look, cover, write and check technique. You will find the lists in the home learning section in Week 1.

PHONICS

Continue to play the games on www.newphonicsplay.co.uk practising Phases 2, 3 and 5. Try the Reading Robot. Try the Phonic Games on BBC Bitesize in the English KS1 section.There are also lots of resources on Twinkl to support phonics. 
﻿Have you discovered www.phonicsplaycomics.co.uk? You can
revise your phonic knowledge by reading comics - choose your
level and off you go.

READING
