Did you know the first ever christian church was located in Antioch Turkey. The grotto of S.T Peter outside Antioch (now known as Antakya) is believed to be created by Jesus' disciple, Simon Peter.

S.T Nicholas is a historical figure who used to get gifts and he left it at peoples doors so he is a lot like Santa and he was actually born in Turkey in Patara. People believe that he performed miracles like saving sailors from sinking ships.

Turkey is responsible for 75% of the hazelnut exports. Most of the worlds hazelnuts grow in the Mediterranean basin. Italy is the next largest producer for hazelnuts. also nuts are mainly used in Turkish deserts like baklava.

Turkey have many traditional foods mostly including meats this is a very popular meal called shish kebab. The ingredients consist of lamb, ground meat, onion, garlic, bell pepper, olive oil, black pepper and paprika.

a Sigara Borek is a traditional Turkish meal which is made of a fried feta and is surrounded by crispy pastry

HISTORY

The year was 1299 AD when this happened a ruler of a Turkish tribe had a dream about a tree growing out of him and covering the whole world. This ruler was osman the 1st and with the help of his successors they built the mightiest middle eastern empire of their time. Osman established a formal government and gave foundation to the Turkish people where he lived (in Ottoman) his and his son started conquering in war and then conquered Bursa in 1326 AD in an attempt to stop the ottomans then there was the battle of necopalis in 1396 the ottomans won the battle and continued to be victorious.

TRADITION

oil wrestling is not only a tradition but also a sport in the sport you put lots of oil on you so when you wrestle against your opponent it is hard to grip onto them because it is so slippery. And it actually started in 1346.

Another tradition in turkey is that if you are invited to someones house and leave before midnight this could mean that you didn't enjoy going there and you did not like the way that you were treated.

CLIMATE

Turkeys western Mediterranean region has hot dry summers and is moderately warm and it has got rainy winters. Summers usually last nine months there apart from mid summer. The sea temperatures there never go below 15 degrees and never go over 28 degrees. July and August can hover over 40 degrees sometimes.
