Greek Gods and Mortals

Year 3 Summer Term 1

Good Morning Year 3! Last week you surprised me with a wonderful video to tell me you missed being at school! I miss you all very much but hopefully we will all be back together soon. I have enjoyed looking at your party plans very much and your party hats are AMAZING! Keep sending me photos and keep working hard. All your hard work will pay off. Stay safe and stay fabulous,

Miss Payne X

Reading

Read the story about Theseus and the Minotaur and then answer the questions about the story.

For this activity you will need to visit the Pupil Section on our school website - 'Year 3 Home Learning Summer 2020'.

Choose your own book from home to read. Maybe read outside on a blanket in the sunshine or somewhere else special to you! Take your time and ENJOY your book. Any book at all but read for 1 hour!

English

Well done to everyone who did their spelling test on Friday! Here are your new words for this week:

streets, squeaking, deleting, thieving, athlete, empty, lovely, dream, breeze, penalty

Each word has an 'ee' sound but they are all spelt differently. Can you learn them and spell them correctly by Friday? Ask mum and dad to test you on Friday - no peeking!!

Read the story about Pandora's Box (for this activity the story can be found in the Pupil Section on our school website - 'Year 3 Home Learning Summer 2020'). I have only given you the first part of the story. Write a prediction about what you think might be in the box! Why is Pandora not allowed to open the box? What will happen? I need you to write the next bit of the story from your point of view. Next week I will post the rest of the story next week for you to find out what happened!

Maths

Please check you are up to date with www.mymaths.co.uk. This week I have added additional maths activities for you to do on mymaths - maybe do a couple one day and a couple another day.

Times Table Challenges. I will post a worksheets on the Pupil Section on our school website - 'Year 3 Home Learning Summer 2020'.

Science - LIGHT - Investigating SHADOWS!

This week we are going to make a sun dial clock.

Click on the sundial to find out what to do! What kind of sun dial will you make?

Topic Work - Geography, Art, DT and ICT

For these activities you will need to visit the Pupil Section on our school website - 'Year 3 Home Learning Summer 2020'.

1) Use an atlas or the Internet to find Greece on a map. Can you find the capital city of Greece? What other European countries can you find? Can you find the UK? What is our capital city?

2) I accidently dropped my Greek pot! Can you cut it out and put it back together?

3) Can you make your own Greek pot out of salt dough, clay, plasticine or something else? Click on the Greek pot to find a recipe for salt dough - when it is dry you could even paint it if you want to!

4) Design your own Greek pot with lots of patterns - or just practice some of your own patterns on a piece of paper! Use different pens, paints or colours to make it a special piece of art!

5) Log onto J2e.com and then click JiT. Then click on 'Paint' to create your own pot! I gave it a go - can you draw your pot and then save it?

6) Try some Greek food! Look at the list of foods and see if you have any at home. If not choose one and ask mum or dad if you could maybe try one and add it to the shopping list this week! This is optional so don't worry if you don't fancy tickling your taste buds!
