A Scene

Setting: The Village

Characters: Matiwara, Mother, Father, Brother, Sister

[Matiwara arrives back in the village. She speaks to her family.]

Matiwara: Hello Mother and Father. It's me, Matiwara.

Mother: Matiwara! My dear daughter! Where have you been?

 Father: Oh Matiwara! We were so worried about you!

Brother: I missed you so much, where have you been sister?

 Matiwara: When I was gathering firewood in the savannah last Monday I heard a creepy laugh and when I turned round I saw an ugly, old woman. She told me to help her gather some wood for her stove. I helped the old woman gather the wood and to take it to her house

at the end of the savannah. When we arrived she quickly closed the door behind me and she kept me there and treated me badly. She put a spell on me. I had to do all the chores for her. I was really sad and I cried a lot. She told me that in order for me to be free to go home again I had to guess her name. I tried hard to guess her name but I couldn't. One night I went out to collect wood to cook dinner and I heard her say her name. Then, when I got back home, I told her

that I knew her name and when I said it, she vanished.

Sister: What was her name?

 Matiwara: Shokolokobengloshy!!!
