Why do we only see parts of the moon?
All the parts of the moon are still there, but we only see only a part of the moon. The sun illuminates exactly half of the moon at night. So the real answer is that it is something to do with our eyes!
We only see parts of what's being illuminated by the sun. For example when we see the crescent moon(banana shaped moon) being illuminated, the sun is still illuminating half of the moon but we can not see it.
