What was the Blitz?
The Blitz was an attack from Germany to Britain, which went on from September 1940 to May 1941. The attack was Germany dropping bombs onto Britain. Everytime a Blitz attack would happen, there would be an air raid siren to warn them to get to safety.

At 4:56 seventh of September 1940 the air raid sirens wailed as the German air force launched a massive raid on London. Germany bombed britain at night because they thought they wouldnt be seen. They killed over 2000 people in London at night.
Shelters
The first attack
People built Anderson and Morrison shelters to protect themselves and there familys from the Blitz. The Morrison shelters were inside, they were small, cramped and squished. Anderson shelters were outside which, were bigger than the Morrison ones, they also had some grass on top for more protection, to camouflage and they could grow vegetables on top. There were some public shelters which were underground train stations, in case someone couldnt get home on time.

The word Blitz is short for the German word Blitzkreig which means lightning war.
