Hungry Ghost Festival
The Hungry Ghost Festival is a holiday celebrated on 15th August in many Asian countries, like China and Japan. It is a festival for remembering and honouring those who have died. The souls of the dead are said to wander the land of the living during the whole month of August, which is sometimes called Ghost Month. After two weeks, these ghosts are extremely hungry, so during the Hungry Ghost Festival people make offerings of food and fake money or useful objects made from paper.

Diwali
Diwali is a festival in India. It is the festival of lights. It is celebrated in the months of October or November and marks the start of the Hindu New Year. The festival is called Diwali because of the rows of clay lamps that the Indians light outside their houses. There are many legends about this festival, but they are all about the victory of good over evil. Diwali celebrated the return of lord Rama to his kingdom after defeating the evil king Ravana. The people of the kingdom lit thousands of lights to celebrate the return of Rama. Today, Indians celebrate Diwali with family gatherings, decorating their homes, lighting clay lamps, sharing sweets and gifts. They worship lord Ganesha and the goddess Lakshmi.
Hanukkah
Hanukkah or Chanukah is a Jewish festival of lights. It starts on the 25th day of the Jewish calender month, usually in December. The festival lasts for 8 days. An eight-branched candlestick called a Hanukkah menorah is lit every night, and special blessings are said. One candle is burned on the first night, two on the second night and so on until all 8 candles are burning together on the last night. The lighting of the Hanukkah menorah reminds Jews of a miracle in which the Menorah in the temple of the sacred city of the Jews, Jerusalem, kept burning for 8 days with only a little oil. It is a tradition for children to receive small presents for each night of the festival. Traditional food for this festival are fried food like latkes, potato cakes and doughnuts.
