THE ANCIENT GREEKS

The ancient Greeks shaped the world in ways that are still seen even now, in modern day life. (They didn't just shape the world, they also shaped clay superbly and invented sculpturing.) Many don't think about the origins of what they use everyday and don't acknowledge how the ancient Greeks invented something like the vending machine.

WHO WERE THE ANCIENT GREEKS?

The ancient Greeks were the people who invented, fought, studied, lived and talked in new and different ways to all previous civilisations. The Greeks excelled in life like no other tribe group before or at that time. Maybe it was because they had so many brilliant war inventions such as the catapult when it came time to fight. Or when they were bored and wanted entertainment they thought OK then, let's build something to entertain us, so they created the theatre (still widely used today). Not to mention creating many more things for different purposes.

WHEN AND HOW DID THE ANCIENT GREEKS FIRST FORM?

The fist ever Greek civilisation was called the 'Minoans,' after their exceptional first king: king minos. They didn't live on mainland Greece but instead on the nearby island of Crete between 2200BC and 1450BC. Then, next in line after the Minoans, came the Mycenaean civilisation from mainland Greece. They were excellent builders and traders, but above all they were very talented soldiers. This particular group are best known and famous for the 'battle of troy.' Next came the 'dark age,' called this due the fact no writing nor evidence of this mysterious time period has ever been found. And on, and on and on the ancient Greeks expanded and ameliorated for approximately 40,000 years until now.

WHAT DID THE ANCIENT GREEKS GIVE TO US?

As mentioned earlier in this piece, the Greeks handed down many things they invented down the generations until they eventually ended up almost everywhere. Life would just not be the same without the Greeks. To name but a few of the things that the Greeks have given modern day society: democracy, the Olympics, maths and geometry, sculptures, philosophy, science, water wheels, alarm clocks, medicine, and also parts of modern languages originate from Greece . They have also given us very interesting, sometimes gruesome, history lessons.

THE UGLY GRUESOME SIDE TO THE ANCIENT GREEKS MORE UGLINESS

Despite the previous paragraphs, the Greeks weren't The athletes taking part in the Olympic

an agonisingly barbaric side to them, because when they went to war there was no seeing if your foe is alright. NO WAY! There was only blood and bone and almost always victories for the Greeks. The Greeks had such a great reputation perhaps because, like everything else in their life, they could simply invent new tools and weaponry for whatever purpose was required (in this case war).

To sum up; the ancient Greeks do more than you give them credit for, from cool inventions to
