Mexico

Introduction

It is the 14th biggest country in the whole world and is a really exciting country to learn about. It is home to incredible jungles, beautiful beaches, volcanoes, ancient pyramids and both old and vibrant cities.

They left impressive buildings that you can still see today, either as spooky ruins in the jungles or jumbled up with shiny skyscrapers in Mexico's modern cities.

Food

TORTILLAS

The staple food of generations of ordinary Mexicans, tortillas can be made of flour (more common in the north) or maize (the traditional method and still the most common in the south). Often served alongside a meal as bread would be, tortillas are also used in many typical dishes - rolled and baked for enchiladas, fried for tacos or grilled for peccadilloes.

CHILLIES

In general, the bigger the chili, the milder the flavor.Large Poblano chilies are stuffed and served as a main course, the small Habanero is ferociously harge Poblano chilies are stuffeot. To ask if a dish is spicy, say "es pic ante" - though hotel menus will often specify dishes that might offend tourist palates.

Celabrations

Since Aztecs times, religious festivities have been a major part of Mexican life. Catholicism found a fertile land here and an interesting –and sometimes impossible to understand- syncretism became the quintessence of Mexican national identity. You’ll be surprised, on looking closer at Mexico's carnivals, to find very conservative people dancing to please or to ask favors from the Pres-Hispanic gods masked behind catholic saints. If exploring those traditions is your kind of thing, Tlaxcala and Tepoztlan are a must for your trip.
