Food chain

A food chain shows how living things get food. The arrows on a food chain indicate where energy is being passed. The sun is the primary source of energy in a food chain.

Plants make their own food through a process called photosynthesis using the energy from the sun,water and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and nutrients. They chemically make their own food. Since they make their own food, they are called producers. The organisms that eat the producers are the primary consumers. The primary consumers are herbivorous (vegetarians).
