6AM: I left the house on my own, wrapped up in my warmest

coat (which I wear every day) to make the 3km trip. I met up with other

children from my village, and we huddled together beneath the mountain to keep

warm, waiting for the last couple of stragglers to arrive. As soon as we were

all together, two of the dads put their sledges and emergency packs on their

backs, and we set off for school…

1.

Can you write a diary entry for one of these

children, describing their journey to school?

Dear Diary, I woke up and then I had my breakfast I usually

have something warm, today I had porridge, it tasted oaty and it heated my

whole mouth up. I brushed my teeth and then I got dressed, put on my wooly

scarf and I brought my hotwater bottle with me. I placed it inside my fluffiest

and warmest coat I could find. I popped on my warm socks and fluffy boots and

got ready for the hectic snow what I had to

face. A few minutes later……………….I am tugging my

hotwater bottle as tightly as I possibley can and I am digging my hands as deeply into my pockets as

I possibly can, then I see my friend Jacob I shouted his name and he turned

around and gave me a wave. I wonder was he

thinking the same

as me?…. I can’t wait to get school craving for the warmth.

The journey was tough because I just got out of my cosy bed and yesterday I

started to get blisters by my feet, my boots go up and down and I have blisters

all over my feet now. As soon as I saw a glimpse of the

school I sprinted up the mountain, with a

spring in step for that moment I forgot about the

blisters altogether.

The children walked across the ice. They heard an

almighty crunch beneath their feet! A tall

mountain stood right in front of them

Question Time!

Do you think the children in the picture find the journey to

school difficult?

Yes, because it is crowded by snow and doing it everyday

must be so tiring. You will gets lots of exercise. You kind of feel bad for

yourself because your standing in the cold waiting for someone who is late,

this could you feel agitated and frustrated.

What do you think their school is like? I think their school

is very wooden because wooden cottages can be really warmer because its incase.

I think school life would be difficult because you might need to stay inside

all day because its really cold outside.

How might it be similar/different to yours? I think there is

one big hall where all the children go as there is not many kids, at Malorees

there are lots of children in my class.

Who are the adults in the picture? The adults in the picture

were the parents because it said Dads.

What do you think they are carrying? They are carrying a

sledge and a first aid kit. Maybe the children were carrying water and school

books too.

Where in the world do you think the children are from? I

think the children come from the polar regions because the weather is always

cold.

How do you think these children would react to spending a

day at your school? I think the children would probably be fascinated how big

the playground is with so much greenery. They may feel excited to try news

experiences, but they could feel

homesick because it is so different.

How would you react to spending a day at theirs? I would

feel excited because I like new experiences, I think getting up to school would

be challenging but fun also.
