Charles Darwin was born on February 12th 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. On 19th April 1882 he died.

A few years after Darwin had finished school, he secured a place at Edingburgh University to study medicine. At the age of 18 Darwin quit medicine because he didn't like the surgery and studied Divinity instead.

In 1831 Darwin recieved a letter inviting him on a 5 year scientific expedition to research different plant and animals around the coast of America. Darwin decided to go although his dad didn't want him to. On 27th December 1831 the HMS Beagle left Plymoth.

During the 5 year expedition Darwin visited many different islands. He kept a scetch notebook of all of the different plants and animals that he saw.

From the expedition Darwin thought of the idea of evolution.

He thought that over the years the different animals evolved and adapted to their surroundings in order to live. On certain islands the Finches with long beaks dies off and evolved into Finches with short beaks.

Charles Darwin is remembered for his therory of evolution and his natural selections.
