In match factories they employed little children to dip the matches into a chemical called phosphorous.
It was cheaper to get little kids to work than adults. if you had long hair and you worked in a factory then you had a chance of your hair getting caught in a machine
Many poor Victorian children had to work for a living. most of the children wanted to work in factories because it looked cool.
