Year 4 Home Learning - Friday 15th January 2015
Remember that you can post your home work and comments on the blog!
Maths
We have been using arrays and the short division method to divide this week. An array shows a multiplication fact and a division fact. The short division method is also called the ‘bus stop’ method. You can use either of these methods at home to practise dividing with or without remainders. Try to divide two or three digit numbers.(For more details on how these methods work go to the Ashmount Primary School website, click on Curriculum, then learning resources and scroll down to the link ‘Calculation Policy for Parents 2015’).
POWer Projects
Well done to everyone who has bought in a POWer Project already! Please continue to work on these and bring them in whenever they are ready to share. You can do any research, writing or projects that link to our Topic or Science (Living Things and their Habitats) - they do not have to be on the list in your homework book.
Spellings
Continue to learn these spellings and be ready to use them in sentences in our test next week. Use the menu of spelling ideas that we gave out at the parent presentation and meetings.
Blue
If you are still learning the year 3 and 4 spellings learn these words.
Appear, arrive, array, arrow, possible, fully, messy, afford, difficult, different.
Purple
In class we are focusing on the suffix –ous, the prefix in- and ‘sc’ spelling. Try to remember how the suffix or prefix can change the meaning of a word: –ous means “possessing” or full of”, -in can mean “in” or “not”.
Dangerous, poisonous, jealous, hideous, various, courageous, scene, science, indigestion, inactive, incorrect, insincere, invisible, inaccurate, indestructible.
Next week....
Maths: we be finishing off our time on division looking at word problems. We will then be starting on decimals and fractions.
English: we will be developing our editing skills to create a booklet on King Henry VIII.
