Riddles. A perfect example of stress. We all know that they can be great fun but can also be a ball of stress. Has this ever happened to you? You have just been asked a riddle and you don't know what the answer is. So you then start to hit yourself saying, "Think brain, think!" but you simply can't. In this situation I'm sure you would just give up and ask for the answer. This won't work, so I'm going to tell you something that will. I would ask to listen to the riddle again but slowly and take in every single word of it. You never know what trick they've thrown in there. To give you some experience on handling difficult riddles, I'll give you one myself:
I'm thinking of a word, I'll give you some clues to help you. I am a person who lives in disguise, who deals in secret and tells nothing but lies. Next tell me what's always the last thing to mend, the middle of middle and the end of the end. And finally give me the sound often heard, during the search of a hard-to-find word. Now string them together and answer me this, which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?
Please do not read this paragraph until you have figured out the riddle. The answer is... a spider. By the way, that was an extract from the book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (the sphinx riddle). So, did you follow my advice and succeed? Or did the stress take advantage of you and caused you to fail? I don't blame you if you lost because that riddle was pretty hard. Anyway, I hope that you learnt something, whether it was about riddles or stress.
