The RMS Titanic

Mattea Saliba

The Titanic was a luxurious steam ship built by White Star Line. It was launched on the 31st March 1912. It sunk on the 15th April 1912 when it hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The RMS Titanic was one of the most luxurious ships at the time. It was the length of three football fields. There were over 2,200 people on board the Titanic when the accident occurred. 900 of them were crew members. The Titanic was divided into three classes and floors. The top floor was for people in first class. They were the wealthiest people on board and had access to a swimming pool, squash courts, barber shop and a reading and writing room. They also slept in private and also had access to delicious food in a dining room. The people in second class could enjoy an outdoor promenade, relaxation room, library and dining room, while in third class ten people used to sleep in one cabin and 700 people had to share two bath tubs. The Titanic left from England and their destination was the USA.

On the 15th April 1912, in the evening right before midnight the Titanic hit an iceberg and sunk in the North Atlantic Ocean. The water temperature was 2 degrees celsius. The Titanic only had 20 life boats. Sadly 1,500 people died.

The boat was found in 1985 by the oceanographer Dr Robert Ballard. Things that were found on the boat can be seen in museums all over the world.
