Home Learning
Year Group: 2

This is the Year 2 work for home learning whilst we are closed. Please
keep an eye on the year 2 class blog for updates. If you have any questions or

We will do all that we can to work in partnership with you to support you with your child’s education during these challenging times. Below is a range of
suggested activities and we recommend, that where possible, the children get
into the routine of completing daily Maths and English work alongside some of
the other suggested learning. 

TWINKL
If you log onto www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and create a new account using the offer code UKTWINKLHELPS you will be able to access a year 2 home closure pack with a wealth of
activities which will support the children’s learning in Maths and English. 

PHONICS
Please visit www.phonicsplay.co.uk and revise reading the Phase 3 and 5 digraphs and playing the games on offer.

READING

Please ensure that your child reads every day. At school we have been working hard to develop the children’s fluency and comprehension. If the children become fluent and read words automatically, they can spend more time actively thinking about the text which will help with their comprehension. Encourage children to read aloud to develop fluency, to talk about what they have read, and to discuss new vocabulary. During school
hours, the children can access an online library of books at www.getepic.com They will
need to sign in with their class code which is: mme8703

The children have their CGP reading
comprehension book. Please complete the following pages p6,10, 12,15,16 and 18.

Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation

The children have their CGP Grammar, Spelling
and Punctuation book. Please complete the following pages: 18-26 and pages 32,
33, 38 and 39

CREATIVE WRITING

We would like the children to complete a piece
of creative writing. Please ask them to watch the following clip and to write
it as a story

In school we have been learning about instructional texts. Please can the children write a set of instructions for making something of their choice. They might
enjoy making the product ( a craft activity for example) and then writing instructions on how to make it.
We have started planning our ideas for a secret garden and thinking about what we would put in our secret garden. It would be lovely if the children could write a description of their garden. 

MATHS
Please ensure that the children practise their number bonds and tables regularly as securing these is an invaluable skill which will help them with all aspects of their Maths work in moving forward.
We will set them some online Maths work on Mymaths so please encourage the children to complete this. The children have their CGP maths book and we would like them to complete the following pages 47-54 35-39, 32 -33, 24-31 
We have been learning to tell the time, to add amounts of money and to find change so this would be invaluable skills to practise.
There are lots of fun maths activities on the following website to practise a range of Mathematical skills.

SCIENCE
In Science we are learning about plants. It would be fantastic if the children could grow/ look after a plant and find out about what plants need to grow. The children can present their findings as a poster or as a J2E blog. They might like to keep a diary to detail the changes to their plant over time.

TOPIC In Topic we would have been learning about the Rainforest before Easter. It would be great if the children were to find out about the different plants that you would find in the Rainforest. The children can present their information as a poster or as a
blog.

ART AND DESIGN

Please can the children do some observational
drawings of different flowers and plants in their garden. They might like to
paint some of these or produce a garden collage.

BLOGS 

Please encourage your child to visit the school website and respond to the Headteacher’s blog. Please look at the year 2 blog on the school website regularly as we will be updating this regularly. If there is a prolonged school closure, it will be our best way of keeping the learning going. It will be a great way for the children to say in contact with one another. Please encourage the children to add comments. If the children log onto J2E.com and go onto J2Eblast there is a great spelling and tables game that the children can play to practice important skills.

GET ACTIVE

We regularly have breaks in school to get the children active and moving. The Go Noodle website has a wealth of short 3 - 4 minute workouts that you might like to try. 

We have sent the purple homework books home that you can use to record any home learning such as the creative writing etc. You might like to log what you have managed to complete as a point of reference for us when we return.
