Foundation 2

10.2.22

The children in Foundation 2 have been working hard this week on learning all the sounds in phase 3 phonics. In the reading bag you will find a phonic mat with all the sounds from this phase on it. Please help your child apply what they have learned by looking for these sounds in words. It could be in their reading book or when you are reading a story, reading the back of the packet of a cereal box or words in the environment! They made a jigsaw with their own self portrait and sorted old and new toys. We also discovered items, especially toys, that use electricity and shared out thoughts about keeping safe on the internet. Thank you for all the wonderful work that you are doing at home. We have celebrated it and displayed many pieces on our Work from Home Wall in F2

Next week we will be learning all about games and we will be making our own board game. We will be playing lots of games such as bingo, snap, lotto and snakes and ladders and of course, games like hide and seek and What's the time Mr Wolf?!

In phonics we will be revising all of phase 3 sounds and learning how to segment and blend as well as learning the alphabet song. We will also be learning all about capital letters.

In maths we are learning all about counting on from a number and estimating amounts to 10. We will also be learning all about time.

Our Challenge

We will be sending home a snakes and ladders print out and a dice template. Could you make the dice and play the game with your child? Discuss taking turns and jumping on the amount rolled on the dice eg. How many jumps can you make? Can you help your child read the numbers on the board? Can they work out what direction to take the counter as the numbers need to be greater each time? Can your child predict which number they will land on?
