Birgu

1.Birgu is the oldest

city in the Cottonera.

It is by the sea and

has hundreds of yachts

and boats docked there.

2.The history of the city goes back to the Roman times, through to the Arabs and most importantly, the Knights of St. John.

3.The Knights built

many important buildings,

including the enlargement

and strengthening of

Fort St Angelo with

bastions, the church

of St Lawrence, the Inquisitor's

Palace and several Auberges.

4. The work to the Fort was done very carefully and due to this the city didn't fall during The Great Siege and the Turks had to surrender.

5. From this time Birgu started

to be called Citta Vittoriosa

which means Victory City.
