Plants we eat
Vegetables are parts of plants that are consumed by humans or animals as food. There are many different type of vegetables which refers to as herbaceous plants -roots, stems ,leaves, flowers and fruit or seeds. These plants parts can be eaten fresh or prepared in different ways of cooking . Vegetables are good sources of minerals, vitamin A and C.
Fruits are developed from the flower of a plant ,while the rest of the plant is considered a vegetable. Fruits are sweet while vegetables are more savory. Fruit is a mature ovary and it's associated parts. It usually contains seeds. Fruits are important sources of diet fibre and vitamins, especially C.
Leaves - lettuce, spinach, silver beet, leek, parsley and kale.
Roots - carrots, onion , garlic, potatoes, radish
Stems- asparagus
Seeds- sweetcorn, pumpkin seeds, beans.
flowers- cauliflower , broccoli and artichokes.
