Chapter 5: The Secret Agent Society

‘You need our help?’ said Bob. ‘We almost died out there!’ shouted Bill.

Sargent Rupert replied, ‘It is quite tough, that’s why we are giving you secret agent

gear.’ He walked over to the wall and pressed a red button. Two doors magically opened. 

Bill and Bob had never seen anything like it. Two human size slots appeared. Sox said to them ‘Step onto the spots.’ Bill and Bob decide to trust what Sox was saying and step onto the spots. Sargent Rupert pressed the red button; the door closes again. 

While the boys are inside, Sox presses a green button, a hissing sound echoes around and the sound like an elevator going up. Sargent Rupert presses the red button and the doors open again.

Bill and Bob are surprised to find themselves standing wearing green night vision goggles, a blue jacket, green tool belt with everything they will need, black trousers and boots with thick soles.

Bill lifts his leg on a wall to tighten the strap on his boot, as he goes to lift his boot, he realises that the sole is sticky. 

Bill decides to try the other boot too, suddenly Bill realises he can walk on walls! Sox says, ‘Those boots will be helpful to walk above the machine to help destroy it’. 

‘You’ll need some extra gear’ Says Sargent Rupert. He goes over to another wall and presses a blue button. A cupboard like door opens. Lining the cupboard is rows of ropes, different gadgets to get you out of sticky situations. He picks up two things and hands them to the Bob. ‘This is a grappling hook to grab items from the cats or lift you out of the room if the machine explodes – like batman – only cooler!

Sox hands Bob a watch. ‘Is this just an ordinary watch?’ Bob sceptically says. Sox explains ‘This isn’t an ordinary watch if you press this button on the side, the glass center lifts off and it becomes a mini saw for sawing through ropes. If you press the next button on the left it will move the minute hand and the 0 on the 10 will move and a laser beam will come out and cut through metal.’

Sargent Rupert says ‘You’re nearly ready to go and destroy that machine, but first you

need these…’ Sargent Rupert goes to the table where the chemicals are brewing and hands them a test tube with a green substance inside. ‘This is what you need to destroy the Catatopic machine, you need to drop this into the glass casing at the top of the machine. Get out immediately because it will explode! Once the machine has been destroyed the virus will evaporate and the virus will be no more. Before you go, I have this for you.’ He hands the boys two more test tubes – one with yellow and one with red liquid in them.

Bill read the test tubes. The yellow one reads ‘Ironskin potion’ and the red one reads ‘Health potion’. Sargent Rupert tells them that the ‘Ironskin potion’ will make your skin like iron. Any lasers, fire or electricity will bounce off your body. The health potion will help to heal you quickly if you are hurt.

Sargent Rupert says, ‘Now GO, destroy the machine!’ 

Both boys walk up the wall using their new boots and climb back into the trapdoor.

Sox whispers ‘I do hope they destroy the machine and stop my brother.’ He takes a long sip of his hot chocolate. Slurp!
