Great Fire Of London

Blog

2nd September 1666

The Great Fire Of London started in a bakery owned by

Thomas Farriner on Pudding Lane. His maid forgot to put out the

fire and she was the first victim of the fire.

It was the second tragic thing that happened

in The Stuart Times. The first thing was

The Plague.

The maid tried to climb out the bakery

but sadly failed, once the fire started,

the fire spreaded quickly into other houses since the houses

were made of wood. By 7am shockingly 300 houses were burning

then by 10 am pepys travelled to Whitehall to tell King Charles II about

the situation he recommended to pull down the houses to make fire breaks.

When it was 3pm the fire burnt in the waterside and even warehouses

fed by all the flammable goods such as wine, oil, hemp, tar, coal and timber.

people tried to escape by going to rivers and going into boats and sail away.

Samuel pepys, the great English diarist, was forced to flee his home

during the fire, but not before he buried some wine and his parmesan

cheese and other prized possesions.

The Monument to the Great Fire Of London still remains here so we wont

forget about what had happened in Pudding Lane. The London is said to be

so precisely that if should ever be tipped over it will point to the exact spot

where this great blaze began.
