A Prince and a Princess

Prince Ahmed grew up in the Summer Palace.

On his third birthday his dad ordered that he

stays locked up in the Summer Palace. He felt

very sad and lonely. When he was older a white

dove flew onto his window. He put the dove in

a golden cage so it could be his friend. But that

evening he saw that it had tears in its eyes. He let it

out and a few days later it returned. It told him

about a princess. Prince Ahmed wrote lots of poems for her and the dove took them to her. One day he went on a quest to find her. When he managed to go to her palace she told him to fight for her. A bird flew Prince Ahmed into a cave. In it there were a horse, an armour, a sword and a lance. The next day he fought and fought. No one could beat him. The king was unhappy. The following day he came back dressed in rags and sang poems to the princess.

Princess Algeduna is a young, beautiful woman with hair the colour of wheat and eyes like cornflower. She was held in a castle. The white dove flew to her window

and gave her a letter. She read all of

the poems in it. One day Prince Ahmed

came to her castle and she told him to

fight for her. She gave him her scarf.

The next day he fought and fought.

After that day he came back dressed

in rags and sang the poems to her. She

married him and lived with him in the Summer Palace.
