It's Christmas Time!
Christmas, it's that time of the year which brings us all together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on the 25th of December! We all wait eagerly for Christmas time and all the festivities it brings along year after year.
Many people start decorating their houses as early as November. We take out the nativity crib and decorate it with the nativity figures. My mother also puts a baby Jesus doll in manger decorated with light and vetches which we would have grown in the dark weeks before.
My favourite Christmas decoration is the Christmas tree. I always help my parents putting it up and I love spending an afternoon decorating it with colourful baubles, tinsel and hollies. I also put the star at the top tip of the tree.
All the villages light up their main streets with Christmas decor, shops decorate their window sills and churches light up their facades. Food stalls can be seen here and there serving hot cocoa, honey rings and delicious Maltese 'imqaret'. Everyone is so very busy scurrying from one shop to another doing their Christmas shopping for food items, presents or both.
On Christmas Eve my family and I attend for the yearly procession of Baby Jesus winding from one street to another, singing Christmas carols along the way. We also look forward to watching a nice Christmas film cuddled together on the couch and sipping some nice hot cocoa drink. Then off to bed to wake up the next day for Christmas Day!
On Christmas my family and I start the day by hearing mass and then we head home to start cooking Christmas lunch together . Beef Wellington is always on the menu as are roasted potatoes and veggies, mince pies, Christmas log and chocolate balls. My father puts on his favourite Christmas songs as background music as we eat to our hearts delight. After dinner we finish off with our yearly tradition of a Monopoly game.
Christmas time is a time to cheer, love, re-unite, share and forgive. I just love this time of the year as my heart is filled with joy and everyone is ever so merry!
