The animal I would like to see - Kangaroo
- Australia's most famous animal
- Get around by hopping on their back legs
- Belong to a group of animals called Marsupials
- The largest Marsupials on Earth
- Carry their young in a pouch
- More than 50 species of kangaroo
- Some of the smaller species are called Wallabies
- Live in Australia and nearby areas
- Most live in grasslands
- Generally have soft, woolly fur
- Can be grey, brown, red and blue-grey
- Can stand 1.8 metres tall and weigh 90 kg, though some are much smaller
- Have long, powerful back legs that are good for jumping
- Balance themselves with their long, thick tails while jumping
- Female kangaroo usually has one young, called a joey, each year
- Just after the joey is born it crawls into a pouch on the mother's stomach
- Stays there for several weeks and feeds on its mother's milk as it grows
- Gradually, it learns to hop out and look for food
- When it is 7 to 10 months old, the joey is ready to leave the pouch
