What is the different between a hurricane, typhoon and a cyclone?
Hurricanes develop over the North Atlantic and north-east Pacific Oceans,
Typhoons are formed over the north-west Pacific Ocean and Cyclone come
from the South Pacific and Indian Oceans and they spin in the other way to
Hurricanes and typhoon, and they both have different names.

Hurricanes are given names so we can track them done easily.
How are Hurricanes measured?
Scientists use satellites to work out the strength of the wind and rain. Winds
are measured by the Saffir-Simpson scale which puts hurricanes into 5 categories.
What causes a hurricane?
Hurricanes form over the warm ocean water of the tropics. When warm moist air over the water rises, it is replaced by cooler air. The cooler air will then warm and start to rise. This cycle causes huge storm clouds to form.

A state of emergency means that the government stopped their usual business and concentrated on sorting out the problem.

The paths storms take would give them plenty warnings.Shops and homes would boarder up and schools would close down. People would stock on foods, water and medicines. People were ordered to evacuate there homes (leave the area) or stay in a emergency shelter.
