The words 'breathing heavily through his snout' tells me that Adrak is scared. I think Adrak is nervous because he stumbled along after Raksha.

The two wolf cubs are frightened and worried about going on a forbidden adventure. The part when the text says 'a hot surge of guilt was beating in her blood' shows me that Raksha also feels guilty about asking him to steal Shere Khans meat.

Once i felt like this when lots of people were squirting me with water in the park on my birthday. It made me feel angry, so I hid from everyone. I knew my mum would be angry at me but i still did it!
