Our heart is continuously pumping blood round our body to keep us alive. This process is done in 2 pumps. The 1st pump only pumps blood to your lungs then it travels back to the heart ready for a 2nd push which then pumps blood to the rest of your body. Then this process is repeated.

Blood flows inside a network of tubes called blood vessels, arteries, veins and capillaries. Each time your heart beats it sends lots of blood to your key organs along arteries. This is called a pulse. Most peoples pulse rate is 60-80 beats per minute.

The main function of the circulatory system is transporting blood, oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. The circulatory system is actually two separate systems of circulation, pulmonary and systemic, both of which interact with the heart and pump blood throughout that system.
