Rome is the capital city of Italy, a country in southern Europe.

The highest active volcano in Europe is Mount Etna. In 1669 some 20,000 people were killed.

The Colosseum is the giant amphitheatre built in Rome under the Flavian emperors. Also Rome is known as the Eternal City. The famous seven hills of Rome that are Palatine, Capitoline, Aventine, Viminal, Quirinal, Esquiline and Caelian are ridges of the Campagna. The official residence of the pope of the Roman Catholic Church is Vatican City.
