Helen Keller




Helen Keller was born on the 27th June 1880 in Alabama, United States. Unfortunately, she died on the 1st June 1968.


She was an American author, Political activist and lecturer.


When she was 19 months old, she contracted an unknown illness, described by doctors as ‘an acute congestion of the stomach and the brain’ which may have been meningitis or scarlet fever. This illness left her deaf and blind.



Dispite her disabilities, she went on to have a fulfilled career, writing a total of 12 books and several articles, whilst also being the first deaf and blind person to earn an Bachelor of Arts degree, and is remembered as an advocate for people with disabilities.
