Ancient Greeks and their gods

Introduction

Earlier in human history, about 2,500 years ago, Greece was one of the most important places in the ancient world. The Greeks were great thinkers, warriors, athletes and much more. They originally named themselves Hellenes but the name 'Greeks' was given to them later on by the Romans. One of the most interesting topics in ancient Greek history were their GODS. Most of them lived on Mount Olympus which was a huge palace in the clouds. The gods that we will explore here are all brothers and their names are: Zeus,Hades and Poseidon.

Zeus

Zeus was the king of gods and anytime somebody disobeyed him, he would throw thunderbolts as a punishment for their actions. His father's name was Cronus, a cruel man-eating giant. When Zeus was born Cronus tried to eat him. A nymph named Amalthea hid him by dangling him on a rope, so he was suspended between seas, skies and earth, making him invisible to his father. Later on, Zeus had the giant one-eyed cyclopes make him a thunder bolt, which he blasted his father with.

HADES

Unlike all of his brothers Hades did not live on Mount Olympus, but instead he ruled the kingdom of the dead, also known as the underworld. Some people made sacrifices to him if they wanted something really terrible to happen to their enemies. He also owned a three headed dog named Cerberus. Hades was in love with Persephone the daughter of Zeus. She, however, did not love him back,so he decided to abduct her while she was picking flowers. Zeus got angry and sent his son Hermes to save her.

Poseidon

Poseidon (who turns out to be older than Zeus), is the god of the sea; was known for carrying a trident, a three-pronged fork; and he used to send storms and earthquakes to shake the land. His son was the famous Greek hero Theseus. He killed the Minotaur, which was a bull-headed monster. Poseidon was also the father of the flying horse Pegasus and Polyphemus the one-eyed giant. The legend says he was jealous of his brother Zeus.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Hades, Zeus and Poseidon were a big part of

ancient Greek mythology and are very interesting to learn

about. In my opinion the Greeks were very cool, especially

their gods.
