Greek Gods and Mortals

Year 3 Summer Term 1

Good Morning Year 3 and Welcome to our Summer Term! We have an exciting half term of learning ahead of us and I am excited to see what we can learn together.

Greece is an amazing country with a lot of history that goes back thousands of years. I hope you enjoy your learning activities and tasks this week. Don't forget to send me photos so I can share your learning with our class!

Reading - Reading about Greece

Find some books on Greece, Ancient Greece or Greek Gods in www.getepic.com and find out 10 facts about Greece. You could also use books from your bookshelf at home or the Internet to find your facts. Either write your facts in your book or share them with mum or dad!

Also read through your YEAR 3 WORD list at the beginning of your spelling book. Are there any words you still don't know? Can you spell them?

Writing - Revision writing sentences

In your blue home learning book can you please use a dictionary to find out about these words and what they mean:

democracy politics mythology acropolis agora parthenon Athens

Write each word in a sentence using joined writing, capital letters, full stops and conjunctions.

Maths - Can you tell the time to the nearest minute?

Please check you are up to date with www.mymaths.co.uk. Some children have a bit of catching up to do! This week we are reviewing how to tell the time. Can you tell the time on the clocks at home? If you want to make your own clock to help then you can if you want to.

Also in your CPG Mental Maths Book by this Friday make sure you have worked up to page 15. If not, keep going! Please write out your 8X tables each day by yourself. Bonus dojos if you do your division tables too. Feel free to use different gel pens or pencils to make it fun. On Friday ask your mum or dad to give you the 8X table test. See if you can get them all correct.

Science - LIGHT

In your blue book I want you to make a list of all the things you can think of that produce light. Then answer these two questions:

  1. Where does light come from?
  2. Does the moon 'shine' at night? You can draw a diagram in your book to explain your answer! Use arrows to show how the light is travelling. Include the moon, Sun and Earth in your diagram. Don't forget to colour and label your scientific diagram.

JIGSAW - Relationships

I would like you to 1) draw a picture of everyone in your family who is important to you OR 2) Create a Family Tree and find out about where you came from. On the picture write one thing you love about each person that you draw. It might be something like - I love his jokes! I love her reading stories to me. Share your picture with your family and tell them what you have written.

PE - Ball games

Try a NEW PE activity in the garden this week, it's going to be sunny outside. Invent your own game using a BALL! Challenge your sister, brother, mum or dad to have a go. I am going to try too!
