Mt VESUVIUS

This volcano is in Italy. It is best know for its eruption in 79 CE. Ash and stones from the volcano buried the Ancient Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Hundreds of years later, many well-preserved buildings and objects were dug up. ruins were found. The volcano is still active. The volcano's last major eruption was in 1994.
