This week in Year 5...
We went to Drayton Manor for a behind the scenes tour of the park and the zoo. This linked in with our Scream Machine topic.
When we arrived, we dropped our lunch off and we went through the zoo to the Education Centre where we had our first Rollercoaster Design session. During this activity, we experimented with K-nex the importance of Kinetic energy and gravity. We found out that if you didn't have enough, the carriage would valley (rock backwards and forwards until it stopped). After this, we were each assigned a job role to design our own roller coaster.
Once we had finished the activity, we went to Bryans Penny Slot Arcade to have a go on the machines. Some of the machines were built in 1927 and it was built by the manager's Grandad. In the afternoon, we completed a theme park detectives activity where we had to try to stick to a budget (45million) and build our own theme park whilst considering the cost of different facilities.
Finally, we went to the zoo and visited the reptile house. Some of us even got to stroke Jeff the snake!
