I interviewed my Grandma, who remembers the war. She said she hated the war because so many people got shot or killed. She was in the Royal Navy and she was very upset because her boyfriend - who was a pilot in the RAF - was shot down and killed - and she was planning to marry him.
Also, food was rationed which means people got only small portions of essential items like bread, butter, meat and cheese, but it was a very healthy diet. There were not many luxury items, like chocolate and bananas.
