Darwin's Delights
Charles Darwin:
Charles Darwin is famous for coming up with a proved theory of evolution. I learn't that he went on a trip on the HMS Beagle, as he wanted to be a naturalist. On his trip he visited different islands like, Falkland Islands, Cape Verde Islands, Ascension Islands and the most famous The Galapagos Islands. He managed to develop his theory because at all the different islands the same type of animal was developed in a different way to suit their environment.
Evolution:
Evolution is a change that happens to and animal, human or even the earth over a long period of time. Different animals adapt and change so they can survive in their environment. The world is adapting around us so that is why others have to change so they can survive.
Fossils:
Fossils could be footprints of an animal or bones. The first process to make a fossil is called "Mold and Cast" where a dead animal could float to the bottom of the sea and other creature may eat their flesh. When only bones are left, layers of sediment cover the bones and make it compressed. It does this over a period of time. Then, cracks form in the stone and ground water rushes through and washes the bones. A natural mold forms and tiny pieces of rock go through the gaps. After millions of years they fill the mold and is pressed further under the ground. It soon turns to solid rock. Next, the ground rises up. Sometimes the wind and rain wears away the layers of rock, but the fossil might stay under deep ground.
