SHOULD HOMEWORK BE BANNED
FOR:Homework takes up a lot of time. Children need to be able to do other activities especially play and physical exercise.
AGAINST:Although children do need to be able to enjoy their weekends how they like, studies have shown that most students only take about 1 hour to complete the homework set so this allows them to still have fun.
FOR:Homework puts children off learning. Studies have shown that children find doing homework stressful especially if the teacher hasn’t explained it very well, therefore taking longer to complete.
AGAINST:Research has shown that if homework is well planned and explained correctly by the teacher, it can help children to think for themselves and get into good habits such as reading for enjoyment and not just because they have to.
FOR:David Baker, a researcher, believes too much homework causes parents and children to get angry with each other and argue. Also some parents will end up doing it for them.
AGAINST:Homework is one of the main ways parents can get involved with their children’s learning. They can help and support their children. School’s need parents support to encourage students to read, learn times tables and research topics. All this can be achieved if homework is not banned.
I have decided that I am against banning homework because the more you learn, the better chance you have of getting a good job when you are older.
