10 Facts about Black bears

1) The name 'Black bear' isn't extremely accurate, 'Black' bears can come in all different colours such as; black; brown; grey; silvery-blue and cream!

2) 'Black' bears aren't always black. A 'Black' bear could have brown cubs and that brown cub could have a black cub!

3) Territory base for a 'Black' bear is Northern Tundra of Canada, Alaska, the forest-environment of Central America which leads into Mexico, where they can also be found!

4) Appearances of a 'Black' bear are; small eyes; long noses; round ears and a tiny tail!

5) Males can weigh between 56.7-226kg (130-500 lbs)!

6) There are ways to recognise the same 'Black' bear twice because there are differences in their appearance that make each sub-species special. These include; a furrier face; thicker fur; sleeker fur and their size!

7) The Kodiak bear has been reported to be the largest sub-species of black bear. This is because they live along the Pacific coast and eat a lot of salmon!

8) The diet of a 'Black' bear is similar to any other bear, termites, bees and moths. However, they eat berries, nuts, acorns, honey and fruit.

9) Other bears aren't as active as this 'Black' bear! Therefore, they like to eat carrion. This is especially important for bears who come out of hibernation, because they need protein and energy!
