We were all silent, staring in awe at the smallish snake that had crept though the open backdoor. Suddenly a bark broke the silence - 2 dogs darted in through the door, startling the snake away. The dogs in question were ragged and thin. My dog loving brother automatically gave them something to eat. A second laterwe heard a smash upstairs,we dashed upthe wooden stairs. a black shadow darted from infront of our eyes. We leapt around clumsily - jumping onto eachother and darkness.

The shadow never left, and for centuries to come nobody living in the house will sleep on the 10th of October...
