11 Facts about Sloth bears

1) At one time, scientists thought that this creature was a sloth!

2) Between Sloths and Sloth bears, they have a lot of the same characteristics, such as; hanging from branches; carrying their babies on their backs; living near other sloth bears; and having the fathers around to help raise the cubs!

3) Sloths can mean 'being slow', but these small-faced bears are defiantly not slow!

4) Strange things that the majestic Sloth bear may do is hairless, flexible lips with gaps in their teeth, long tongues and closing nostrils, all these things happened to them when they adapted to the living expenses!

5) They mainly eat termites, since they're crawling around in the Sloth bear's habitat!

6) The proses they use to eat termites is called 'vacuums', the sloth bear digs into the hard termite mound with its sharp, long claws, it then sticks its snout into the hole, closes its nostrils and ‘vacuums’ the termites into its mouth!

7) Their slurping is extremely loud that people over 90 metres (approximately 300ft) away have heard it, that's loud:)!

8) Sloth bears also eat eggs, insects, honeycombs and carrion, carrion being like the 'Black bear they can also climb trees for fruit!

9) Female Sloth bears will have one or two babies and will raise them for the first 2-3 years of their lives along side the males, who also help!

10) Territory base for Sloth bear would be located in the evergreen forests and grasslands of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Burma and Nepal!

11) Their fur is usually black with a little tuft if white on its chest/stomach and it's shapes like a 'Y'!
