I talked to my Granddad and he didn’t remember much about being evacuated: He was evacuated to Oakhampton in Devon and lived in a very big house or mini-mansion. His whole school was moved and everybody travelled by train. A few houses around his proper home were bombed but fortunately for him, his house wasn’t bombed. It would have been interesting for me if it had.
My Grandma remembered more. She got evacuated to the Lake District. Luckily her mum and sisters went with her. Her dad stayed in London. He did not go to war because he was too old. My grandma had a bomb shelter in her house, not in the garden. Every night everyone in the family would sleep in the shelter. She and her sistersused to play in the other bomb shelters in the neighbourhood which worried her mum. My Grandma was too youngto worry at all.
